Firefighters are Type 'A' personalities who love the adrenaline rush. Successfully mitigating the emergency tactical simulation is not much different that handling a real emergency. You must verbalize all of your actions in detail and it usually isn't in real time. The simulation, as well as a real event requires performing ongoing size up, identifying incident priorities, setting strategic goals to satisfy the incident priorities, and assigning units. In basketball the only way to score points is for the ball to go in the hoop.  In assessment centers dimensions = points; to score points you have to exhibit the dimensions being evaluated by the assessors. The 12 step format demonstrated is a tool you will use on day 1 in the front seat of the rig or in the Chief's SUV.
